Kraken Connect Basics
WHAT'S A "ZONE" AND HOW DO I CHOOSE THEM?
Short answer: A “zone” is a location on your vehicle where you want plug-and-play power for accessories.
How it works: Instead of running separate wiring for every accessory, you run power to a few key zones (like the front bumper, roof, or rear cargo area). Then you can add accessories in that zone later without redoing your wiring using Gear-Links.
How to choose your zones: Pick zones based on where you plan to add accessories:
- Front bumper = fog lights, light bars, winch lighting
- A-pillar / hood = ditch lights
- Roof / rack = roof bar, scene lights
- Rear cargo / bed = fridge, rear lighting, power ports
- Rear bumper = chase lights, rear pods
Next step: Start with 2–3 zones now, and add more later as your build grows.
I OWN A SWITCH PANEL CONTROLLER; WHY DO I NEED KRAKEN CONNECT?
Short answer: Kraken Connect turns your controller into a clean, expandable plug-and-play wiring system.
How it works: Instead of custom wiring every accessory from scratch, Kraken Connect lets you run power to key zones (front, roof, rear, bed/cargo) using pre-built harnesses — making installs cleaner and future upgrades easier.
Next step: Pick your zones now, and add accessories later without rewiring your whole vehicle.
WHAT DOES PLUG AND PLAY MEAN WITH KRAKEN CONNECT?
Short answer: You can add accessories without custom wiring, wire charts, or guesswork.
How it works: Kraken uses pre-built harnesses and system isolation so you can safely add power without disconnecting your battery.
IS KRAKEN CONNECT REALLY MADE IN THE U.S.A.?
Short answer: Yes — Kraken Connect is made in the U.S.A.
How it works: We build our harnesses to meet the FTC’s “Made in USA” standard (“all, or virtually all” made in America).
Next step: We focus on quality materials, reliable crimps, and long-term durability — not cutting corners.
KRAKEN CONNECT COMPATIBILITY
WHAT VEHICLES ARE SUPPORTED?
Short answer: Kraken Connect is designed to work across a wide range of vehicles, but fitment depends on your controller type and where you’re powering accessories.
How it works: Our plug-and-play harnesses are built around standardized zones (front bumper, roof, rear, bed/cargo, etc.).
Next step: If you don’t see your exact vehicle listed, choose your controller and zones — we can still recommend a build.
WHAT CONTROLLERS ARE SUPPORTED?
Short answer: Kraken Connect is currently compatible with the Diode Dynamics D-Switch and Auxbeam solid state controllers.
How it works: Kraken Connect uses purpose-built harnesses designed to integrate cleanly with supported controller outputs.
Next step: Don’t see your controller listed? Send us the brand + model and we’ll confirm compatibility before you order.
WHAT IF MY CONTROLLER ISN'T LISTED?
Short answer: If your controller isn’t listed, it may still be compatible — but we need to confirm the connector style and output type.
How it works: Kraken Connect interfaces with specific controller output formats. If the controller uses a different connector standard or output design, it may require a different harness or may not be supported yet.
Next step: Send us your controller brand/model (and a photo of the output connector if possible) at info@kraken-overland.com. We’ll tell you whether it’s compatible and exactly what you need.
KRAKEN CONNECT INSTALL & WIRING
CAN I INSTALL THIS MYSELF OR DO I NEED A SHOP?
Short answer: Yes — most customers can install Kraken Connect themselves with basic tools and a little patience.
How it works: Kraken Connect is designed to reduce wiring complexity by using pre-built harnesses and plug-and-play connections. Most installs involve mounting components, routing cables cleanly, and connecting to your controller.
When to use a shop: If you’re not comfortable removing trim panels, routing wires through the firewall, or mounting accessories, a professional shop may be a better fit.
Next step: If you tell us your vehicle and what you’re powering, we can recommend a clean install plan and cable lengths.
DO I NEED SPECIAL TOOLS?
Short answer: No specialty wiring tools are required for most Kraken Connect installs.
How it works: You’ll typically need basic hand tools for mounting and routing (trim tools, socket set, zip ties/loom management). Because the system is designed for plug-and-play connections, you generally won’t be cutting, crimping, or soldering for standard builds.
Next step: If your build includes custom mounting, pass-throughs, or non-standard accessories, we’ll tell you what additional tools (if any) you’ll need.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT LENGTH CABLE I NEED?
Quick Zone Cable Length Guide:
Front Bumper: 8’–12’
Roof: 16’–20’
Rear: 20’–24’
Short answer: Pick cable length based on where your controller is mounted and where the accessory zone is located.
How it works: Most installs follow common routing paths (engine bay → front bumper, cab → roof, cab → rear cargo/bed). We recommend lengths that allow clean routing with a little slack for service loops.
Next step: If you’re unsure, choose the next length up (it’s easier to secure extra length than to come up short). You can also message us your vehicle + controller location + zones and we’ll recommend the correct lengths.
CAN I ADD ACCESSORIES LATER?
Short answer: Yes — Kraken Connect is designed so you can expand your build over time.
How it works: You can add new zones and accessories without redoing your entire wiring setup. As long as you have an available output/channel on your controller, expansion is straightforward.
Next step: When adding accessories, make sure the accessory’s current draw is within your controller channel’s rating. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll recommend the right setup.
SHIPPING/RETURNS/WARRANTY
DOES KRAKEN STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS?
Short answer: Yes — Kraken wiring harnesses and tethers are backed by a 5-year warranty.
How it works: If something fails due to a manufacturing issue, we’ll make it right.
WHAT'S THE KRAKEN RETURN POLICY?
Short answer: We accept returns on unused product in original packaging within 30 days of purchase.
How it works: Proof of purchase may be required.
Next step: Email info@kraken-overland.com to start a return.
